On the 11th of October, Mr. Gheorghe Magheru, Member of the Scientific Council of New Strategy Center, participated online as a speaker in the debate “15 years of EU membership of Romania – transformation in and of the EU”, organized by the Romanian Embassy in Rome, together with the Luigi Sturzo Institute. The event aimed to highlight the particular progress that EU membership has had on our country and Romania’s role in strengthening the Union and its policies. In addition, the discussions also focused on the impact of the enlargement process, highlighting recent developments and the context of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Mr. Gheorghe Magheru participated in panel II, titled “EU enlargement: (between) solidarity and integration for a common future”, where he highlighted the geopolitical aspects of the enlargement process and Romania’s relevance in the conditions created by the new regional challenges and threats. In addition, the long-term importance of the enlargement of the EU bloc in this new unpredictable security context was highlighted.
The speaker on this panel was Ms. Nicoletta Pirozzi, Head of Programme on European Union and Institutional Relations Manager at the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI), Italy. The moderator of the discussion was Mrs. Loredana Teodorescu, European and International Affairs Officer, Luigi Sturzo Institute.
