On May 5th, a delegation of New Strategy Center and one representative of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been invited to the debate “Energy in Black Sea” held in Istanbul. The focus of the event was the energy security, the participants highlighting that this domain receives much attention, but most of the time it is viewed as a challenge rather than an opportunity for the regional development. Moreover, the discussions brought into attention the fact that the energy depends directly on the political and military situation in the region.
New Strategy Center has been represented by Mr. Sergiu Celac, Member of the Scientific Council; Prof. dr. Dan Dungaciu, Member of the Scientific Council and Director of the Political Sciences and International Relations Institute of the Romanian Academy; and Dr. Cosmin Ioniță, director of research programmes at New Strategy Center and assistant professor at the Faculty of History – University of Bucharest. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was represented by Mr. Mihnea Constantinescu, Ambassador at Large, Special representative for Energy Security.
This event was organized by the Marmara Group Foundation in cooperation with New Strategy Center as part of the partnership between the two organizations. The previous event co-organized by the two institutions took place in Bucharest on 1 February 2017 and was named “Vulnerabilities and Opportunities in the Black Sea. Romanian perspective; Turkish perspective”.
