NSC at „The War in Ukraine: Regional And Humanitarian Consequences” conference in Ankara

Mr. Gheorghe Magheru, Member of the Scientific Council of New Strategy Center, participated as a speaker in the debate “The War in Ukraine: Regional and Humanitarian Consequences”, organized by the Directorate of Communications of Turkey, on April 14th, in Ankara. In the opening, the initiator of the conference, Prof. Fahrettin Altun, Director of Communication of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, presented Ankara’s vision of the current security context.

Moderated by Kılıç Buğra Kanat, Research Director of SETA Washington DC, the panel “How Can Humanitarian Consequences Be Contained?” discussed the humanitarian impact of the Russian war in Ukraine and how these consequences can be addressed to minimize their lasting negative effect. Mr. Gheorghe Magheru emphasized Romania’s efforts in managing the influx of refugees from Ukraine, the importance of Romanian-Turkish bilateral relations and the strategic role of the two countries in the Black Sea, and welcomed NATO’s decision to set up four new battle groups on the Eastern Flank, including one in Romania.

Other speakers on the panel were Andrey Makarychev, Visiting Professor at the University of Tartu, Hamza Tașdelen, Vice-president of AFAD, and Ryhor Niznikau, Senior Research Fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs.
