New Strategy Center, in partnership with Ministry of Defence, organized a briefing visit to Mihail Kogălniceanu base and the port of Constanta, attended by leading experts in the field of security and international relations from NATO states and who participated in the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum conference.
Presentations were made by American, British and Finnish allies, present with various missions in Romania, and representatives of Romania’s air force and naval forces, on the security situation in the Black Sea region, the challenges in the air and naval domains, Romania’s efforts and investments to increase its defence posture.
Challenges to freedom of navigation, such as mines, drones, Russian electronic warfare actions aimed at affecting the GPS system of ships, were raised in the discussions.
Representatives of the Constanta port administration provided useful information on cargo traffic and investments made to support Ukraine’s exports.
Experts from the US, UK, France, Germany, Poland and Turkey had the opportunity to learn about security developments in the area and Romania’s efforts as a NATO and EU state to maintain freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
