New Strategy Center publishes an analysis of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s electoral system, as well as the main parties and candidates within the country’s two entities, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, ahead of the elections on October 2nd.
Riddled by intra- and inter-ethnic conflicts and rivalries, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) finds itself in a context of unprecedented internal instability, where the ambitions of various political forces threaten to significantly affect both the country’s European aspirations and BiH’s stability as a state. Tensions over Bosnia and Herzegovina’s possible secession, as well as the risk of interference of third actors such as the Russian Federation in the electoral process, make this year’s elections critical both for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and for the stability of the entire Balkan region.
