Two Years of War in Ukraine: The Impact on Military Operations by Ukraine and Russia

Two years after the outbreak of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, New Strategy presents a study entitled „Two Years of War in Ukraine: The Impact on Military Operations by Ukraine and Russia”. The author of the study is Mykhailo Samus, Director of New Geopolitics Research Network, Ukraine and non-resident expert at the New Strategy Center. The study examines the lessons learned so far from the war, the impact on the organisation of Ukraine’s armed forces, changes in doctrine, how Ukraine has resorted to asymmetric actions to deal with Russian aggression. At the same time, the author also discusses the solutions recorded in the Russian camp to improve their actions and try to achieve positive results on the front.
The study stresses the importance of 2024, both for the future and independence of Ukraine, and in terms of the effects on regional and global stability, depending on possible developments on the front. The West needs to understand that Russia’s aggression will not stop in Ukraine if the country can no longer defend itself amid diminishing external support and the Putin regime continues its war against other states.
The recommended course of action for Ukraine and the West involves a comprehensive approach, with particular attention to the development of resources and technological and industrial infrastructure. Key elements include accelerating the production of arms and ammunition, identifying economic opportunities and implementing targeted sanctions to weaken Russia economically by limiting its technological and financial capabilities.
