Trump vs. Harris: The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy and Transatlantic Relations

New Strategy Center publishes a new study, entitled: Trump vs. Harris: The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy and Transatlantic Relations. The report analyzes the contrasting foreign policy approaches of Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in the lead-up to the 2024 U.S. presidential election, examining their potential impacts on NATO, the Ukraine conflict, energy security, economic stability, and U.S.-European relations. With Trump advocating an “America First” agenda and a focus on fossil fuel-driven energy independence, his strategy signals a potential reshaping of alliances, with an expectation for European allies to bear greater defense responsibilities. Harris, in contrast, emphasizes multilateral cooperation, a strong NATO alliance, and a balanced energy approach that integrates both renewable and traditional resources. This study offers a comprehensive overview of how each candidate’s foreign policy stance could influence transatlantic partnerships, global security, and the geopolitical landscape through 2028. The relationship between the EU and the US will be shaped by how the war in Ukraine ends. A ceasefire or a frozen conflict will not solve the problem of the war in Ukraine and without firm security guarantees, Russia will start the war in a few years.
The author of the study is Dilara Kakillioglu, Research Coordinator at the New Strategy Center, and it was peer-reviewed by Dr. Antonia Colibasanu, Senior Associate Expert at New Strategy Center and Chief Operating Officer & Senior Geopolitical Analyst at Geopolitical Futures.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
