The CAMMera project addresses the urgent challenge posed by munitions dumped in European seas by developing and demonstrating innovative, scalable, and environmentally responsible technologies for their final clearance and disposal. While previous efforts have focused on detection and identification, CAMMera fills a critical gap by targeting Phase IV of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD): actual remediation.
Through a consortium of leading European partners, CAMMera will advance remote and autonomous clearance tools, establish safe removal methods for degraded explosives, and design industrial-scale treatment concepts. The project also enhances site surveillance, environmental monitoring, and knowledge transfer through regional workshops and policy guidance.
The New Strategy Center contributes to CAMMera by coordinating outreach in the Black Sea region, facilitating regional workshops, and supporting the development of a European business case for large-scale remediation efforts. The project is funded under the PPPA-2024-MUNITIONS call and runs from July 2025 to June 2028.
