New Strategy Center, in partnership with the Ministry of National Defence, organized an informational visit on Thursday, May 14, to the 57th Air Base in Mihail Kogălniceanu and to the Military Port of Constanța. The visit was attended by security and international relations experts from NATO member and partner states who were present in Romania for the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum.

During the visit, representatives of the Defence Staff, the Air Force, and the Naval Forces, alongside American allies, delivered presentations on the current security situation in the Black Sea region. Specific challenges in the air and naval domains were addressed, as well as Romania’s significant efforts and investments to strengthen its defense posture. The discussions also focused on threats to freedom of navigation, including the presence of mines, the intensive use of drones, and electronic warfare actions employed by the Russian Federation to disrupt ships’ navigation systems.

Participants from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, and Japan thus had the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the security developments in the region and Romania’s active contribution, as a NATO and EU member, to the defense of the Eastern Flank and to ensuring freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
New Strategy Center thanks the Defence Staff for its support.
