Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum – Panel IV

The fourth panel, titled “What New Megathreats? The Global Economy facing the Security Front of Challenges,” consists of a dialogue between Ms. Antonia COLIBĂȘANU, Senior Associate Expert at the New Strategy Center and chief Operating Officer and senior Geopolitical Analyst at Geopolitical Futures in Romania, and Mr. Nouriel ROUBINI, Professor Emeritus at the Stern School of Business of New York, USA.

Speakers discussed the diverse nature of today’s threats (economic, social, technological, political, etc.). Economically, today, we have to worry not about inflation but about stagnation, high interest rates, and massive public debts. We are also witnessing phenomena such as deglobalization, fragmentation, and the “Balkanisation” of the economy. Last but not least, a particular topic was the war in Ukraine, its economic impact, and the economic impact of the Russian asset freeze on European states.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
