On Monday, 21 June, New Strategy Center organized an online conference dedicated to the NATO summit held in Brussels on 14 June and to the impact of decisions on NATO’s Eastern Flank and, in particular, on the Black Sea region.
The debate was moderated by Ambassador Cristian Diaconescu, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the Scientific Council of New Strategy Center, and the guest speakers were Ambassador Sorin Ducaru, former NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, currently Director of the EU Satellite Centre (SatCen), General (Ret.) Sir James Everard, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (UK), Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Ben Hodges, Pershing Chair in Strategic Studies, Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA), former commander United States Army Europe (USA) and Dr. Karsten Friis, Head Research Group on Security and Defence, Norwegian Institute of International Affairs – NUPI.
The dynamic debate considered how the North-Atlantic Alliance would ensure deterrence and defense measures on NATO’s Eastern Flank, possible developments in bilateral relations between the US and Russia after the meeting between Presidents Biden and Putin, the transatlantic relationship and cooperation between NATO and the EU.
