On Thursday, March 24th, experts from the New Strategy Center met online with experts from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) to discuss topics of common interest in the field on security and international relations.
The transatlantic relationship and instability created by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the consequences of this war on NATO’s Eastern Flank and the prospects for developing the partnership between the North Atlantic Alliance and Australia were some of the topics addressed in the discussion. In addition, representatives of the two think-tanks also discussed the security challenges faced in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, the cooperation between China and Russia and its future in the current context, the security risks to Australia, but also cooperation between the European Union and Australia in the field of foreign affairs and security.
Given its geographical location, Romania and Australia face different security challenges, but are committed to defending the same values of the democratic world. The meeting is part of the New Strategy Center’s efforts to promote Romania’s strategic importance in the current security context, as well as to strengthen a better understanding of the perception of each of the parties involved in this dialogue of the security challenges we are facing.
