On Monday, 28 March, experts from the New Strategy Center met online experts from the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) think-tank to discuss topics of common interest in the field on security and international relations. The discussions considered the consequences of the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine both, at regional and global level, the impact of the war on the global economy and the effects of the economic sanctions imposed to Moscow. At the same time, the NSC and JIIA approached the subject of the security challenges that Romania and Japan are facing due to the Russian Federation’s actions. The participants also exchanged ideas on the development in the Balkans area and in the Korean Peninsula, including the nuclear program of North Korea and its significance for the regional security.
The meeting is part of New Strategy Center’s efforts to promote the strategic relevance of Romania in the current security context, as well as to consolidate a better understanding of the perception on the security challenges we are facing of each of the parties involved in this dialogue.
