New Strategy Center participated on Thursday, October 26, at the Maritime Security Forum, organized by the Admirals Club in partnership with the Romanian Naval Forces. George Scutaru, Director General of NSC, was speaker in the panel “Security Challenges in the Black Sea Region”.
The intervention focused on the presentation of the security environment in the Black Sea region in the context of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, the impact on freedom of navigation and the energy stakes, given that Romania will start building its critical energy infrastructure for the exploitation of the Neptun Deep perimeter, in a context where it is very likely to face harassment actions from the Russian Federation affecting the proper development of energy infrastructure construction in this area. It is imperative that Romania accelerates its investment in upgrading naval capabilities to ensure an effective deterrence and defence policy.
George Scutaru also highlighted Romania’s support to Ukraine, especially in terms of grain exports, and emphasised the importance of maintaining support for Ukraine at all levels.
