New Strategy Center participated in the event “What is with the new world order? Post-Pandemic and Post-War Probabilities”, organised at the initiative of the Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Cyprus, together with the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs, University of Nicosia’s think tank and the London School of Economics IDEAS (LSE IDEAS), UK.
The event took place at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus and addressed the most pressing global and regional issues, with discussions focusing in particular on the strategic importance of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea region.
Thus, the first day of the conference focused on the main security challenges currently facing the international community such as the US-China trade war, the consequences of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Also, as part of the panels, the changes in the international order were discussed, the role that the United States will play in a multipolar world, the impact of these changes on the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea region and the consequences of Russia’s aggressive actions in these areas. The challenges facing the European Union were also considered by participants, outlining how the EU has responded to both the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
The second day of the conference was opened by a panel dedicated to the specifics of the relationship between China and Russia, its evolution, global implications and the medium and long-term priorities of these two actors. Beyond this, changes in the international order were analysed, in particular the impact on universal values. Finally, the last panel of the day focused on the issue of the war in Ukraine and how it has changed the global economic and trade paradigm and its future in a post-war context.
On this occasion, the speakers from the New Strategy Center included Ambassador Cristian Diaconescu, member of the NSC Scientific Council and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, BG (ret.)
