On 5 October, Rear Admiral (Ret.) Iuri Covaleov and Laurențiu Pachiu, Senior Associate Experts at New Strategy Center, delivered a briefing for a group of experts from the Norwegian Ministry of Energy.
The two experts presented the main security challenges in the Black Sea region, including threats posed by electronic warfare, the danger of sea mines, cyberattacks, and the developments in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as risks to critical infrastructure.
The experts also addressed the energy dimension and Romania’s potential in this field, highlighting the prospect that, starting in 2027, Romania could become the largest natural gas producer in the European Union following the development of the Neptun Deep offshore gas project. The discussions also focused on Romania’s role in strengthening regional energy security.
