NSC in Brussels: Roundtable Dedicated to the Black Sea region

New Strategy Center participated on Monday, July 7, in Brussels, in a roundtable discussion with EU policy-making specialists and independent experts for a collective dialogue on launching the implementation of the new EU Strategy for the Black Sea region. The event was organized by the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS).

Experts from Kadir Has University in Istanbul, New Strategy Center, Sofia Security Forum, Ukrainian Prism, and the Centre for European Policy were invited to the discussions. Lieutenant General (ret.) Vasile Toader, member of the Scientific Council, represented NSC.

The main topics discussed focused on: the construction and operation of the maritime security hub in the Black Sea, possible requirements from EU member states and regional partners, aligning proposed actions with security guarantees for Ukraine, improving NATO-EU cooperation for implementing this strategy, and opportunities for Turkey’s involvement in achieving common objectives.

The aim of this roundtable was to generate and evaluate ideas that could be considered during the upcoming Foreign Affairs Council meetings in the following months.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
