NSC at NESSI Annual Conference 2025

New Strategy Center participated on Wednesday, September 17, in the annual NESSI conference “Preparing for Turbulent Times – Reinventing Europe’s Defence: Challenges, Lessons Learned and Possible Scenarios”, organized by the Institute for Political Studies of Defence and Military History and the Department for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations within the Ministry of National Defence.

During the event, George Scutaru, Director General of NSC, took part as a keynote speaker, offering participants an assessment of the security situation in the Black Sea region and the threats we are facing, given the current geopolitical context after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

George Scutaru also noted that, most likely, even after the end of the conflict, Russia will continue hybrid actions in the region, blocking areas of the Black Sea under the pretext of naval exercises, sabotage, cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, actions that can affect energy and connectivity projects. Therefore, protecting critical energy infrastructure and strengthening cooperation with Western partners are vital for the safe exploitation of these resources, especially since Romania will become, starting in 2027, the largest gas producer in the EU, through the exploration of offshore reserves in the Black Sea.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
