The New Strategy Center organized a workshop on “Policy Development: Focus on the Black Sea Region” on 6-7 February, in partnership with the Swedish Defence University, bringing together international security and defence experts.

Discussions focused on the security challenges in the Black Sea region, with an emphasis on recent developments in the war in Ukraine, the impact of Russian aggression on freedom of navigation and the risks Moscow is posing to energy projects in the Black Sea offshore area. The experts also analyzed possible scenarios for the evolution of the conflict and their implications for regional and Euro-Atlantic security. Swedish experts also presented an assessment of the security situation in the Baltic and Arctic region.

The results of the discussions will be presented into a strategic simulation exercise to be held in March in Washington, organized by the US and Swedish Defense Universities.
