The issue of energy security has once again been on the New Strategy Center agenda, in a context in which the subject is now on the agenda of many European countries. New Strategy Center organized on Tuesday, November 9, the online debate “The Strategic Energy Projects of Romania. Perspectives and Development Opportunities”. Moderated by Mrs. Alexandra Gătej, member of the Scientific Council of the New Strategy Center, the debate benefited from the contribution of Mr. Virgil Popescu, Minister of Energy, Mr. Josh Volz, Acting Under-Secretary for Africa, Europe, Eurasia and the Middle East, US Department of Energy, Mrs. Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom, Mr. Cosmin Ghiță, CEO of Nuclearelectrica, Mr. Daniel Farmache, CEO of Electrogrup.
The conference considered major energy projects, such as the exploitation of natural gas resources in the offshore Black Sea area or the increase in electricity production as a result of investments in the nuclear energy area. Romania’s export potential, the current state and prospects of the transport network, the energy dependence of the states in the region on a single supplier, the EU’s energy policy in the context of the Green Deal and Romania’s industrial development plans were high topics during the event. The discussions also referred to the cooperation in the energy field between Romania and the USA and to the way in which in this way the strategic partnership between the two states can acquire a robust economic dimension.
