On 16 September, New Strategy Center, in partnership with the Embassy of Norway in Romania, organized a working dinner dedicated to the protection of critical offshore infrastructure and Norway’s experience in this field.

Following the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Norway became the most important supplier of natural gas to Europe. Norway is responsible for the security of 97 offshore fields and more than 18,000 km of subsea pipelines, having accumulated extensive experience in protecting critical offshore infrastructure, as well as port infrastructure. At the same time, Romania is developing major energy projects in the Black Sea.

In 2027, with the start of production at the Neptun Deep gas field, Romania will become the largest natural gas producer in the European Union, further increasing the country’s strategic relevance. In light of these developments, it is important for NATO member states to share their experience in protecting critical infrastructure and addressing a broad spectrum of threats.

The event brought together experts from Norwegian companies and institutions, who presented their capabilities and expertise in protecting critical offshore infrastructure and port infrastructure in Norway.
