Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum – Panel II

European Integration of Ukraine and Republic of Moldova. How Do We Support this Process in the Current European Context?

The second panel titled “European Integration of Ukraine and Republic of Moldova. How Do We Support this Process in the Current European Context?” was chaired by Ambassador Mihnea MOTOC, who is currently the Deputy Head of the European Political Strategy Centre in Romania, the notable speakers being H.E. Nicolae CIUCĂ, the incumbent President of the Senate of the Parliament of Romania, H.E. Igor GROSU, the current President of the Parliament of Republic of Moldova, and, last but not least, H.E. Ruslan STEFANCHUK, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Discussions focused on the EU accession efforts of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, highlighting the importance of leaders in the security decision-making process, Romania’s role as a regional security pivot in the Black Sea area, the visible progress of the two neighbouring countries towards accession and Romania’s support in these efforts. Moreover, the special relationship between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the efforts to reduce dependence on Russian gas and the connection with Ukrainian and European infrastructure were also highlighted.
