The New Strategy Center organised on 1-2 February a dialogue session on strategic issues with experts from Turkey (Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies – EDAM) and Bulgaria (Sofia Security Forum).
The Romanian, Turkish and Bulgarian experts discussed topics of common interest, such as the evolution of the war in Ukraine, the challenges to the European Union and NATO in the context of this year’s elections, the challenges in the Balkans region, energy security issues in the Black Sea and the protection of critical infrastructure in offshore areas.
The New Strategy Center, the Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies – EDAM and the Sofia Security Forum will continue to cooperate in 2024 to promote the strategic relevance of the Black Sea region and the Balkans, which is all the more necessary in the current difficult international security environment.
This is the second meeting in this format, organised at the initiative of the NSC in Romania. In this way, the three think tanks contribute to the development of the strategic dialogue between Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey and to the strengthening of cooperation between the three NATO states bordering the Black Sea. As a reminder, the three organisations presented a study on security challenges in the Black Sea region at NATO headquarters in Brussels in November 2023, which advocated for increased cooperation between Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey.
