From Battlefield to Home: The Ukrainian Veteran Reintegration Challenge

New Strategy Center publishes “From Battlefield to Home: The Ukrainian Veteran Reintegration Challenge,” a study dedicated to one of the most sensitive challenges of Ukraine’s post-conflict period: the reintegration of veterans.

The study examines the complexity of the transition from military to civilian life for former combatants and highlights the multiple challenges associated with this process. In a context marked by limited domestic resources and the need for coherent international support, the analysis draws attention to the social and security risks that may arise from inadequate management.

By identifying key vulnerabilities and opportunities, the study underscores the need for an integrated approach that combines effective public policies with consistent external support, so that veterans can become a pillar of Ukraine’s economic reconstruction and national resilience. The study is, at the same time, a plea for a large-scale involvement of the European Union in long-term projects that support the reintegration of Ukrainian veterans into civilian life.

The analysis was conducted by Ion Cristea, Ecaterina Dadiverina, international relations experts at New Strategy Center, and George Scutaru, CEO of New Strategy Center and former Presidential Advisor for National Security.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
