NSC at The Hague – workshop within the framework of the European project CAMMera

On 19–20 March 2026, Sergiu Mitrescu, Associate Expert at New Strategy Center, participated in a workshop hosted in The Hague by Fugro, within the framework of the European project CAMMera – Clearance Activities for Marine Munition through Efficient Remediation Approaches (marine munition remediation), of which New Strategy Center is a partner.

During his intervention, Sergiu Mitrescu presented the key lessons learned from the Sofia workshop, highlighting its role in shaping a regional agenda for the Black Sea and in strengthening dialogue among institutional, industrial, and research stakeholders.

The presentation was linked to ongoing developments regarding the emerging EU strategic approach to the Black Sea, underlining the need to integrate maritime security and the protection of critical offshore infrastructure into future European policy frameworks. Discussions during the workshop emphasized the importance of a coordinated approach across technological, operational, and governance dimensions, as well as the relevance of transferring expertise between European maritime basins, including from the North Sea to the Black Sea.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
