New Strategy Center participated in Chișinău, on October 12, at the conference “International Security Forum – Building Resilience, Ensuring Stability, Harnessing Welfare”, organized by Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) and Institute for Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) “Viitorul”.
BG (ret.) Eugen Simion, Senior Associate Expert of the NSC, was a speaker at the third session of the event, “Standing with Moldova: Confronting Direct Russian Aggression in Ukraine and Europe”. The discussions focused on the Russian Federation’s disruptive actions in Ukraine, which are fuelling regional and global insecurity, and destabilizing world economies, creating unprecedented economic, technological, and energy repercussions and vulnerabilities. It focused in particular on the impact of the war in Ukraine on Moldova, the risks the country is facing, and ways in which Russia’s aggression can be defeated. The need to support both Kyiv and Chișinău in this tense security context was stressed by the panelists. In addition, the strategic importance of the Black Sea was outlined during the discussion, with the need for a concrete NATO strategy for this region and a reinforced presence of Allied forces.
The panel was also joined by Kira Rudik, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament, Democrats for the Euro, Dan Barna, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies, Romanian Parliament, and General (ret.) Victor Catana, former Minister of Interior of Moldova.
