New Strategy Center participated on Thursday, November 23, at the conference “New Concepts, Technologies & Equipment for Romanian Naval Forces Development”, organized by the Romanian Naval Forces in Constanta.

During the event, George Scutaru, CEO of NSC, made a presentation dedicated to the security situation in the Black Sea region, the impact on the Euro-Atlantic area and the energy stakes. He highlighted the possible developments of the war in Ukraine, the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation as Russia blocks perimeters in the Black Sea under the pretext of naval exercises, and the negative effects on food security due to Russia’s disruptive action, Romania being the main route for Ukraine’s grain exports.

George Scutaru also raised the issue of energy security, in the context of the start next year of the construction of the infrastructure needed to exploit the Neptun Deep perimeter in Romania’s Exclusive Economic Zone. This perimeter, with gas reserves estimated at at least 100 billion m3, will give some countries in the region a chance to get out from under Russia’s energy blackmail and will make Romania the largest gas producer in the EU from 2027.
