NSC at “The Growing Importance of the Black Sea”

On June 11-12, NSC participated in the event “The Growing Importance of the Black Sea: A conference for experts from Media, Politics and the Military”, organized in Varna, Bulgaria under the auspices of The Media Programme South East Europe (Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung) together with the Sofia Security Forum.

Major General (Retired) Paul Hurmuz, Senior Associate Expert, was a speaker in “The Black Sea and Military Strategies” Panel. He stressed the risks and threats generated by the Russian war against Ukraine, including military and hybrid operations against assets and territories of NATO states, the energy security aspects, the violation of the freedom of navigation.

He also underlined the NATO, bilateral and regional measures taken until now and the need to constantly adapt our posture in order to strengthen our deterrence and defence in the Black Sea.
