On Tuesday, February 10, the New Strategy Center met with US Senior Fellows from the George C. Marshall Center. Lt. Gen. (ret.) Vasile Toader, Member of the Scientific Council, and Maj. Gen. (ret.) Paul Hurmuz, Senior Associate Expert, delivered presentations focused on the security situation in the Black Sea region.
NSC experts presented the main security challenges in the region, both conventional and hybrid, as well as potential developments in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. They emphasized the strategic importance of the Black Sea for Euro-Atlantic security, in the context of debates on the future global security architecture.
They also highlighted upcoming strategic energy projects. By exploiting the Neptun Deep perimeter, Romania is expected to become, starting in 2027, the largest natural gas producer in the European Union.
During the discussion, the need to continue international support for Ukraine was reaffirmed.
