New Strategy Center publishes a new study in the context of the war in Ukraine, this time related to the economic and geostrategic importance of microchips.
“Microchips: their economic and geostrategic importance in the context of the current international crises” examines the importance of microchips and of new technologies in defining geopolitical power relations. The study begins by analysing the main players – present and future – in the microchip market, with a focus on Russia and Taiwan, the different interests in this area and the interdependencies in the global microchip market. In addition, the paper looks at the microchip field through the lens of the war in Ukraine and the impact of sanctions on Russia, to analyse the extent to which the lack of access to Western technology may affect Moscow from a military, banking and energy point of view.
The study was conducted by Marcu-Andrei Solomon and Ecaterina Dadiverina, New Startegy Center experts.
