Ambassador (ret.) Gheorghe Magheru, Member of the Scientific Council of the New Strategy Center, participated on 23 October in the conference “Map of Power II – Alliances, Influences and New Centers of Power,” organized by Ludovika University, in Budapest.

Ambassador (ret.) Gheorghe Magheru presented Romania’s perspectives on security risks on the Eastern Flank, with a focus on the Black Sea region in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and attempts to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. He also addressed the strategic importance of the Black Sea region for NATO and the EU, Romania’s contribution to strengthening the Bucharest Nine (B9) and the Three Seas Initiative (3SI), as well as Romania’s longstanding involvement in advancing a comprehensive approach to regional cooperation, including through formats such as SEECP, ICE, SUERD.

On the margins of the conference, Ambassador (ret.) Gheorghe Magheru held meetings with Dr. Gergely Pál, Rector of Ludovika University, and Ms. Klára Bauer, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also met with Dr. András Rácz, Deputy Director General for Research at the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs, as well as Dr. Péter Krekó, Director of Political Capital.

 

The meetings highlighted a shared interest in strengthening dialogue and cooperation between think tanks and academic institutions in the fields of international relations and the security environment, reflecting common concerns regarding contemporary challenges. The New Strategy Center and its Hungarian counterparts expressed their readiness to contribute to this process.
