The New Strategy Center organized an event entitled “2025 – The Year of Major Negotiations” in Sinaia on 13-15 January.
The discussions focused on an analysis of the possible scenarios for the evolution of the war in Ukraine, the peace process, and key issues such as security in the Black Sea region.
A central focus of the discussions was the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, emphasizing that a truce that does not include real security guarantees for Ukraine risks becoming a temporary peace, inevitably leading to a resumption of the war by Russia within a few years. In this context, the role of the EU, NATO and other key actors in the future negotiations, in the implementation of effective security measures and in the reconstruction process of Ukraine, including from the perspective of the transatlantic relationship and the installation of a new US administration, was discussed. Another topic discussed was Russia’s hybrid actions to undermine support for Ukraine and the cohesion of NATO and EU states.
The event was attended by experts from NATO and EU countries, Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, as well as representatives of Romanian institutions.
This debate is part of the series of actions organized by the New Strategy Center to promote the strategic importance of the Black Sea in the current security context and the values of the Euro-Atlantic area to which Romania is a member.
