The panel was moderated by Lieutenant General (ret.) Vasile Toader, Member of the Scientific Council of the New Strategy Center and former Military Representative of Romania to NATO and the EU. The speakers included: General (Ret.) Sir James Everard, Honorary Chairman of the International Consultative Board of the New Strategy Center and former DSACEUR, United Kingdom; Lieutenant General Dragoș Iacob, Deputy Chief of Defence, Romania; Major General Karol Dymanowski, Deputy Chief of Defence, Poland; and Mr. Cătălin Podaru, CEO of Leviatan Design, Romania.
The discussion focused on the readiness of NATO’s Eastern Flank to support an expanded Allied military presence. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of logistics, infrastructure, and cooperation among member states. It was highlighted that while NATO is capable of deploying additional troops to the region, achieving this objective requires sustained collective effort. Romania and Poland were identified as key logistical nodes, and the war in Ukraine underscored the critical importance of internal logistical resilience in maintaining long-term defence capabilities. Beyond the logistical component, the need for close and well-coordinated cooperation between various branches of the armed forces and the civilian sector emerged as a central theme. Participants advocated for streamlining bureaucratic procedures, along with strategic planning aimed at accelerating infrastructure development.
