PatriotFest Gala 2023

The PatriotFest 2023 Gala took place on 16 January 2024, marking the end of the sixth edition of the national security innovation competition.
With a special focus on involving young people, the research community and private companies, the PatriotFest competition is a major effort to develop ideas and solutions essential to national security. The competition categories for the 2023 edition were Space, Artificial Intelligence and Creativity for Security.
The PatriotFest 2023 prize was awarded to the project entitled “CortexHub”, presented by Andrei Petreanu and Șerban Bogdan.

The winning projects in the Space Category are:
– First Prize for the project “FLEX-SPACE 5G”, presented by Ionel-Romeo Petruț and Raul Iacoban,
– Second Prize for the project “Real-time detection and tracking of ground targets”, presented by Trandafir Liviu Serghei,
– 3rd Prize for the project “AIRFORCE”, presented by Iulian-Nicolae Petriia and Costin-Cosmin Dumitru.

The winning projects in the Artificial Intelligence category are:
– First Prize for the project “.LUMEN”, presented by Cornel Amariei,
– Second Prize for the project “DeepVision”, presented by Mihai Dogariu,
– Third Prize for the project “Artificial Intelligence Algorithm for Image Processing”, presented by Raluca Nelega.

The winning projects in the Creativity for Security category are:
– First Prize for the project “Quantum Odyssey”, submitted by Laurențiu Niță and Diana Nițescu,
– Second Prize for the project “Biosensor for vital signs monitoring”, presented by Ion Mocanu and Gabriel Tatu-Chitoiu,
– 3rd Prize for the project “Cold Spray for improving the properties of armouring materials”, presented by Fabian Cezar Lupu.

The “Hope PatriotFest” prize was awarded twice this year, for two exceptional projects that could not be decided. The first “PatriotFest Hope” prize was won by Mendel Emanuel Mendelsohn and Ionuț Gabriel Stan for the project entitled: “Electromechanical Actuators and Magnetostrictive Actuators for Mechanical Wave Generation”. The second prize “Speranța PatriotFest” was awarded to the project entitled “SwiftMark – Laser Trainer”, project represented by Tudor-Cătălin Codreanu and Flavius-Alin Cărăvan.
Through partnerships, expert support and organisers, PatriotFest offers not only a competition but also a platform where competitors’ ideas can be developed and turned into innovative solutions for Romania’s national security.

The PatriotFest competition is the only innovation competition at the functional prototype level in the field of national security and is a project launched as a partnership between Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Romanian Intelligence Service, Special Telecommunication Service, Protection and Guard Service and New Strategy Center.
