The Reconstruction of Ukraine and the Strategic Role for Romania, Day 1 – Keynote Speeches

The first day of the conference “The Reconstruction of Ukraine and the Strategic Role for Romania” concluded with a speech by Mr. George Scutaru, CEO of the New Strategy Center, alongside the President of the Romanian Senate, H.E. Nicolae Ciuca, and the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Igor Grosu.

In his address, Nicolae Ciuca expressed gratitude to the New Strategy Center for its efforts in creating a platform for discussions aimed at identifying solutions. According to His Excellency, Romania’s support to Ukraine has not only been substantial but also consistent, emphasizing the country’s firm commitment to continuing assistance in all areas. Simultaneously, Romania has focused on supporting the Republic of Moldova, as reflected in a series of bilateral actions between Chisinau and Bucharest. Nicolae Ciuca highlighted Romania’s expectations for a favourable decision by the European Council on 14-15 December on the opening of negotiations for the accession of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, H.E. Igor Grosu, underscored the danger posed by the imperialistic ambitions of the Russian Federation for the security of Europe. Igor Grosu expressed gratitude to Romania for the support provided to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova during the challenging moments caused by the war initiated by the Russian Federation. Authorities in the Republic of Moldova aspire to transform the European integration process into an irreversible endeavor, with Igor Grosu emphasizing the importance of starting accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
