Workshop on Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Hybrid Threats in the Black Sea Region
On 14-15 June, the New Strategy Center organised a workshop dedicated to countering the hybrid threat of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in the Black Sea region.
The activity is part of a joint project in partnership with the Center for the Study of Democracy, Bulgaria. The event brought together representatives of institutions with direct and indirect responsibilities in the field, and the two days of debates were punctuated by five panels with speakers from Romania, Bulgaria and the USA, with the aim of creating a better understanding of the phenomenon. The Romanian and Bulgarian experts shared their views on the topics under debate, providing a good opportunity to see how the institutions of the two countries, both NATO and EU members, bordering the Black Sea, can better collaborate in a complex security context following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

At its core, a luxury mechanical watch is a triumph of micro-engineering. Imagine a universe contained within a diameter of 30 to 40 millimeters. Hundreds of tiny components—gears, levers, springs, and jewels—coexist in a perfectly orchestrated ballet.

The mainspring stores energy, releasing it with controlled grace through the gear train, its rhythm governed by the hypnotic swing of the balance wheel. This "heart" of the watch, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour or more, is a miracle of physics and precision.
