The New Strategy Center publishes the study « Parliamentary Elections in Bulgaria, April 2026 », a topic that represents a decisive moment for the country’s political future. After years of institutional instability and repeated snap elections, the vote will test whether a fragmented political landscape can produce a viable governing majority.
This study analyzes the main political actors, emerging coalitions, and key campaign dynamics, with a particular focus on the rise of new political forces, and growing geopolitical tensions. It also explores possible post-election scenarios and their implications for Bulgaria’s role within the EU, NATO, and the broader Black Sea security environment.
At a time of heightened external pressure and internal uncertainty, the elections will serve as a critical indicator of Bulgaria’s capacity to restore political stability and maintain its Euro-Atlantic trajectory.
The analysis was conducted by Catherine Neguț, Junior expert on international relations, New Strategy Center and Andrei Pavel, Non-resident expert, New Strategy Center.
