NSC at Delphi Economic Forum: debate on security threats in the Black Sea

The New Strategy Center organised a panel discussion on the strategic Black Sea realm at the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece on Thursday 11 April, entitled “The Strategic Importance of the Black Sea in the Context of the War in Ukraine: Security, Connectivity, Freedom of Navigation”.
In this panel, speakers highlighted the security threats in the Black Sea in the context of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, the impact on the region and globally, possible scenarios of the evolution of the war. Discussions also focused on energy projects in the offshore Black Sea area, the regional impact, for example Romania becoming the largest producer of natural gas in the EU in 2027, once the Neptun Deep perimeter starts operating. The importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, crucial for global trade and food security, NATO support in the face of an aggressive Russian posture, was another important topic of the event.


The panel was moderated by George Scutaru, CEO, New Strategy Center, and the speakers were: Lorant Antal, Chairman of the Energy Committee of the Romanian Senate, Yulia Klymenko, First Vice-Chairman of the Transport and Infrastructure Committee, Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine and James Bergeron, Political Advisor to the Commander Allied Maritime Forces Command.


The event, organised by the New Strategy Center at the prestigious Delphi Economic Forum, is part of a series of efforts to promote the strategic relevance of the Black Sea and support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s war of aggression.
