New Strategy Center publishes an analysis of the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova, scheduled for October 20, 2024, held simultaneously with a referendum to amend the Constitution, a step to underline the country’s irreversible commitment to EU membership.
The study explores key issues such as the impact of these elections on internal stability and the reform process, as well as the importance of the referendum for Moldova’s European path. The analysis also provides a detailed assessment of the candidates and their positioning in the polls in the context of intense electoral competition.
It also examines the large-scale hybrid warfare actions initiated by the Russian Federation to undermine the referendum and to try to damage the electoral chances of the current pro-European President Maia Sandu. The use of criminal networks to corrupt the electorate, the involvement of Russian secret services and a complex disinformation campaign are elements of the Russian hybrid arsenal at work in Moldova.
The analysis was conducted by Ion Cristea, international relations expert at New Strategy Center, under the editorial coordination of George Scutaru, CEO of New Strategy Center.
