New Strategy Center publishes a new study: Disinformation in the context of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Narratives used by Russian propaganda in the Balkans. Case study: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia”, written by Roberta Raducu, Communication Expert with New Strategy Center, and Srdjan Hercigonja, Senior Researcher with Belgrade Center for Security Policy.
The study comparatively examines the narratives which intend to polarize the society in the four analyzed states, considering the „Gherasimov doctrine”, on which the Russian Federation’s hybrid war is doctrinally based.
The conclusions of the paper indicate that there are strong similarities between the narratives present in the analyzed spaces and that the effects of these narratives, beyond the social division that they produce, are also felt on the emotional level by the population, because they are pushed towards an apathy towards the conflict in Ukraine (commonly known also as war fatigue), which ultimately serves Russian interests and undermines the cohesion of the European states.
