New Strategy Center publishes an analysis of the results of the second round of local elections in the Republic of Moldova, held on 19 November 2023.
After the two rounds of voting, the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) remains the main electoral choice at national level, but is experiencing a strong erosion. PAS has suffered defeats in all 11 municipalities and it is predictable that opposition parties will be able to create majorities in many district and local councils, isolating PAS, even though the party came first in many councils.
The results of these elections should be a wake-up call for PAS and other pro-EU parties to review their political strategy in order to strengthen the voter base that supports the pro-European path, especially in view of the presidential elections in 2024 and the subsequent parliamentary elections in 2025.
